The Waycon Struct-Core allows shear cores to be rapidly assembled on site using pre-cast elements, effectively removing the need for site fixed formwork, steel fixing and in situ concrete.

The Struct-Core was developed in response to requests from clients for lift shafts that could cater for lateral loading, thus contributing to the overall stability of the main structure.

Adopting the same high quality design principles as the original lift shaft system, each Struct-Core unit incorporates grouting ducts allowing for a continuous vertical tie throughout the structure allowing horizontal forces to be transmitted to the ground. Dependant on the level of forces applied to the shaft these ties can either consist of standard reinforcing bars or for higher loads continuous post tensioned tendons.

As the standard lift shaft system all Struct-Cores are bespoke products and can be configured to suit any project. Precision engineering means that when it arrives on site the sections are quick and safe to install.

Technical Information

Struct-Cores can be built to suit any size, 25mm increments are preferable to suit our standard moulds but any size is achievable.

Wall Thicknesses:

The Struct-Core generally has a minimum wall thickness of 200mm

Lift Loading:

As the standard lift shaft, Struct-Cores are as standard designed to support all loading from the lift equipment during installation, operation and maintenance. Struct-Cores are also designed to support lateral loads from the main structure as supplied by the client’s engineer. The Struct-Cores are also designed to support loads from adjoining beams and slabs.

Lift Pits:

Lift Shafts as standard are provided with a pre cast pit section, tanked with a liquid asphalt compound to protect against water ingress.

The Struct-Core will sit on the buildings foundations. The foundations will need to be designed to withstand the residual overturning moments being transferred from the shaft. Starter Bars will also need to be cast into the foundations for the vertical ties.
